Caulfield Cup is notoriously known to be a more casual affair than its Flemington counterpart, and thanks to the newly introduced race-wear rules, casual-cool was king! For those who may have missed the introduction of the new rules, socks are no longer a requirement, thus freeing up a wide range of options for gents to wear to the races. The most notable of which would be the tasselled loafer. To say these shoes were out en-masse last Saturday would have been an understatement. Every Tom, Dick, and fashionable Harry had a pair on – and yes, I just so happened to jump on that bandwagon! The Magnanni loafers that I picked up from Harrolds earlier on in the week turned out to be a stellar choice of footwear, and I received compliments throughout the day (and into the night out after the racing wrapped up).
Although the weather played up in typical Melbourne style, it didn’t dampen the spirits of any of those in attendance or impact anyone’s fashion choices on the day. Luckily for myself and the rest of my crew, the Harrolds marquee proved to be an invaluable safe haven during the downpour. Laden with the most decadent of cheese boards and an à la carte menu fit for a king, it was tough to leave the marquee even after the rain subsided.
Now over to the suit! Harrolds is renowned for their unparalleled tailoring. The in-house designed Harrolds Private Label is crafted in Italy ensuring the finest in quality. The quality was evident from the moment I picked out the navy check suit from the Harrolds Collins St store. What’s even more impressive is that they manage to offer this for less than $1,300. If you’re on the hunt for something a little more tailored, Harrolds Private Label also offers a made-to-measure service, offering the premium standard of luxury tailoring, and crafted to your personal specifications.
Below is a selection of snaps of my outfit on the day. I opted for a light blue denim shirt to keep things a little more casual, then threw in the yellow tie as a little pop of colour. In my opinion, the beautiful Magnanni shoes and corresponding belt are what really made the look, showing that relaxed racewear can still look super classy.
The relaxed race-day proved to be a lovely little reunion for the boys in the Aussie fashion scene, with Shaun Birley, Roberto, Larry, Brian all in attendance at the Harrolds Marquee. Getting more than two of us in the same place at once is a minor miracle so as you can imagine, we made the absolute most of it!
