Over the past few weeks I have been doing some research - as all good scientists do - on the origins of some of our favourite menswear staples. One that I found most intriguing was the story of the denim jacket. Denim jackets have long been a quintessential piece of the modern male's casual wardrobe. Interestingly, they probably came into existence just before jeans took off some time in the 1870s.
The denim jacket, for reasons unbeknownst to even myself, is something that I have only just adopted into my wardrobe and has become an instant staple that I use to down dress some of my cleaner-cut looks. The cable knit and olive jeans by itself would be quite a preppy look, but when paired with the denim jacket it completely changes the look, giving it a much more grungy vibe.
I've been working on expanding my personal style to incorporate a wider range of staple wardrobe pieces and have really been focusing on my more casual outfits as of late and have been finding it quite enjoyable. Honestly, if it wasn't for my Uniqlo collaborations, I probably wouldn't be as adventurous with my styling as I am now!
Next up, I'll be getting back into the realm of suiting with one of my favourite Australian designers, so stay tuned for some relaxed Italian street style tailoring.
