After touching down in London Town around a month ago, one of the first things I did - after heading down to Saville Row of course - was scope out London Barber shops that looked capable of taming my mane. After narrowing it down to a handful of potential candidates that looked like they could offer me a terrific trim, I singled in on Edinburgh born barbershop, Ruffians. How I decided upon Ruffians was actually somewhat serendipitous, after finishing a casting down in Shoreditch, I walked past their store and after seeing the fit-out below I thought it would be rude not to call up for an appointment.
After chatting with Adam the following morning, I was booked in for a trim that afternoon with head honcho, Tommy. Within seconds of walking into the joint I was made to feel at home and was offered every kind of beverage imaginable, I can see why they have such a good reputation when it comes to customer service - that's for sure!
After settling on a sparkling water, we got down to business. Now, anyone who knows me well is acutely aware of how serious I am when it comes to getting it cut. Come to think of it, why wouldn't anyone be picky about such things? It's a pretty big part of your aesthetic, and unless you are some kind of self hair cutting prodigy, or take to your own head with clippers, the fate of your hair rests squarely in the hands of others. Something which I clearly have issues with...
Nonetheless, Tommy proved himself to be more than worthy behind the scissors and I began to relax whilst I let him work his magic, we began to talk about Life in London, Morris Motley (turns out he is a fan of my favourite Aussie hairdresser!), travelling abroad and of course, Ruffians and how the brand came to be. Tommy summed up why he enjoys working at Ruffians and it came down to his boss genuinely believing in him. Something as simple as this clearly has had a positive flow-on effect, Ruffians is a multi-award winning barber store and Tommy himself won a rising star award from Creative Head back in 2015 - well deserved in my opinion!
I'll be posting up a photo from my visit sometime soon on the gram, in the meantime, stay tuned on the grooming front as I have a new video with GentSac coming up soon!
