As a man with a serious mop of hair, I'm always getting asked about what products I use in my day-to-day life, and I've been asked more times for hair tutorial videos than anything else. So, as a result of your relentless requests, I've decided to branch out into reviewing and testing a range of mens grooming products that are out and about on the market. Starting with well known Australian brand - DeLorenzo hair.
Anyone who knows me well is aware of my stance on environmental sustainability and Australian made/owned products. So, I was pretty stoked to find out that not only does DeLorenzo produce and manufacture their products on Australian soil, they also endeavour to use Certified Organic ingredients that are sustainably farmed and harvested whenever possible. Damn right I'm impressed!
So first up, I tried out the The De Lorenzo Ocean Mist spray. This is a sea salt infused spray that gives you that 'beach hair' texture, without tangles or knots. The spray combines sunflower seed cake for UV protection as well as kelp to condition and nourish hair.
To begin with, I liberally applied the Ocean Mist Spray to the roots of my hair (Note: this was applied to wet hair post-shower) and then used a hairdryer to blow dry my hair into shape. As my hair is quite thick, I usually apply a wax or clay to my hair after applying sea salt spray.
However, for the purpose of this review, I purely used the sea salt spray and no other products. The low sheen and low hold product works well to give off a nice, relaxed beach hair look, If you've got long hair, have no fear! I managed to test drive this product on my housemate Ryan when he went on a date, and it added a substantial amount of volume, texture and curls to his hair giving him that fresh off the beach look. I'm not sure if it actually helped him with his date, but hey, at least he looked damn fine!
If you have thick hair like mine, this is the perfect product to use to shape your hair and give it some serious volume before applying a product that will hold it all in place.
DMAN Style Pomade
The DMAN Style Pomade will leave you looking slicker than your average without feeling like something out of Grease Lightening. This is a pomade that can be used to control and mould hair, has a light to medium hold and washes out with ease. This pomade is perfect for a side part or slicking back the hair full Gatsby-style. The formula also contains peppermint oil meaning you will look, and feel, fresh-to-death.
I'll be frank, I'm not usually a man who goes for the slicked back 'wet-look' that a Pomade offers. For me, it's usually reserved for black tie and more formal occasions where a classic refined look is required. For this review, I opted for a classic side part and slicked my hair down to the best of my abilities. The Pomade is easy enough to apply and lasted the rest of the afternoon and a plane trip from Sydney to Melbourne with minor adjustments. Not bad pomade, not bad at all.
I was quite surprised at how dark the pomade made my hair in comparison to the sea salt spray. There was also a pretty big difference in my overall appearance from the first round of images to the second; showing just how much mixing up someones hairstyle can do to their overall look.
